if your elementalist is male, stick to ancient.
If you made a female, try this cheap mix:
Top: istani
gloves: istani
legs: kurzick 1k
boots: shing jea

I really like ancient armor, it looks great. Make a nice change from all these "breast-fest" eles you see.
Mine is a combination of stuff too. I use ancient legs and boots, with a geomancer top and stone gauntlets. I finish it off with my destroyer staff.
Obviously my ele is an earth ele.
oh, I forgot to say. If you've got a male ele then Ancient Armor is the best armor is game without a doubt. It just looks so cool on them.

Im personally going to have to say that vabbian armor its by far the best ele armr there is, if you can afford it. Ancient armor is great but its not as good as vabbian.

Surely you jest? Male ele Vabbian armour does not come close on been nicer than male ancient. Another vote here that ancient is probably the nicest MALE ele armour set in the game. I went with black for the trousers and boots and white for the top half though, with glasses instead of other headgear (I have all 3 types, but with ancient the slim or tinted look the best). For my second set of elite though I went with monument dyed white, and next on my list of to get is probably going to be elite Kurzick, again dyed white as I like the contrast between black base and white detail. Wish monument had a black base instead of grey as then it would be my main set, not my second set. As to headgear, spectacles all the way on eles, anything else just doesn't look right for me.
On a female ele I would say that Norn, elite Kurzick and elite flameforged are amongst the nicest, most of the others are either ugly or more fitting in a gentlemens club than a serious ele. :P

Other than that black dyed elite flameforged or primeval.

Ele FOW just makes you look like a warrior almost...or at least a linebacker<_<>_>
Do you have a female ele?
Male ele primeval is just silly as hell.
Ancient is for the biker look.

I was thinking of getting Asuran to use with my Air builds.
I have the Dwarven set too...kinda disappointed in how the chest piece looks though..
